I have a similar situation- my gg grandmother gave one of her sons the
surname of her married sister as his middle name.

I don’t know if they were godparents, but they were apparently childless.
Perhaps it was to help them "carry on the name" or perhaps they were all
very fond of each other and it was just to honor them.

Subject: [Lon] Name query

Hi List

Any theory would be welcome on the naming of my ancestor's daughter.

The lady is Elizabeth Lafbery DEPRADINES birth registered Stepney, Sep 1873.

Her parents were Benjamin Reed DEPRADINES and Julia Watersfield DEPRADINES
[neé BARKER]

Her aunt was Elizabeth LAFBERY [neé DEPRADINES] wife of John LAFBERY.

Why would young Elizabeth be given a christian name of Lafbery ? could it be
that the aunt and uncle were godparents.

Any opinions would be welcome.

Many thanks

Ron Bowyer
