I looked in the index for St Alpfege's, Greenwich for 1883-93 and saw
no Gosses.

I looked through the records for St Paul, Deptford (no index) for 1881-
89 and for St Nicholas Deptford (no index) for 1886-7 and saw no
Gosses. Note, however, that for the Deptford Churches, almost every
page had a couple who brought in 3-4 children (one brought in eight)
to be baptized all at once, so it is possible that your man was a late
baptism. Have you tried FreeBMD?
