Does any one know exactly when he died?
All we have is an extract from the Gentleman's Magazine:
The Gentleman's Magazine:
Deaths 1839
July 31. The relict of Edward Knowles, esq. late of the Admiralty, Somerset
House.
Our understanding is that he was a fairly high official in the Admiralty -
presumably in
the Transport Branch. Would this have been in Somerset House circa 1830?
