Just to add to Anne's very thorough explanation - the document your mother
would probably have given you would have been a commemorative baptism
certificate, often a rather beautiful, illuminated object with the
signatures of your godparents etc. I am afraid that once this is lost, it
is gone forever. All you could expect to find in the parish register (and
as Anne says, you will need to identify the parish in question before you
have any real hope of finding it) is a handwritten entry by the Vicar giving
the date of baptism, your name, your parents' names, your place or residence
(probably an actual address, but possibly just the parish), your father's
occupation and the name of the person who performed the ceremony.

Mary Anne,

Non-conformist is the title given to churches, which after the
reformation in England, Wales and Ireland, refused to 'conform' to the
State Church, which was the Church of England.

Strictly speaking, Roman Catholics are non-conformists, but usually
the term is used only for Protestant Churches which refused to join
the C of E - so - Quakers, Baptists, Presbyterians,
Congregationalists, Independents; and after the late 18th century,
Methodists.

If you were baptised in London, it will be very difficult to find your
christening record unless you have a very good idea of the area you
live din. There are just too many churches and not many indexes.
