I think HEWETT is probably right. There is a marriage of a Charles SMART
and a Susannah HEWETT at Acton on 10 May 1896 - I will send you the image
off list. Susannah's age is about right (though she was perhaps a wee bit
younger than she let on) and the Susannah HEWETT on the 1891 census, born in
Acton with father William (the same as the marriage cert) is missing on
subsequent censuses. I have also identified a Charles SMART, son of
Alexander (as per cert) born in Clerkenwell c1873 in the 1881 census.

The only way to make sure, of course, is to get the birth certificate(s) of
one or more of the children. There are certainly plenty to choose from,
though I could only come up with about 16, not 23! On the 1911 census,
Charles and Susan state that they have had 10 children (7 still living) and
there are 6 SMART/HEWETT births registered in Brentford RD from Q3 1912
onwards. Given the couple's productivity, it is likely that there was
another between the date of the census and Thomas C (Q3 1912).
