Does anyone have a book to recommend on the history and people of the Long
Cane region starting in the colonial period (e.g., 1750's when Patrick
Calhoun and company first showed up)?

Hi Vicki,

I have read the following books recently that have had a mix of historical
and genealogical information, and I found them very interesting and relatively
helpful:

1) Scotch-Irish Migration to South Carolina, 1772 (Rev William Martin and His
Five Shiploads of Settlers), by Jean Stephenson
2) Scots-Irish in the Carolinas, by Billy Kennedy (good genealogy info)
3) The Scotch Irish; A Social History, by James G. Leyburn (Helped me
understand the psychology and cultural influence of my Scot-Irish ancestors, and the
patterns of immigration)
