Subject: [LOWE-L] James and Amos Lowe Ontario, Canada

I am attempting to establish who my paternal gggf and ggf were. My gf
was named James Byron LOWE and was born in Percy, Peterborough Cty,
Ontario, Canada on 09/17/1858. I have understood from family stories
that ggf was named Amos Bull Lowe and ggm Sarah Jane Kemp. I am
beginning to have some doubts as to the middle name being Bull.
I am reasonably certain that Amos LOW listed in the 1848 and 1851
censuses for Canada West (Ontario) for North cty and Murray locale is my
ggf. The listing shows LOWE, Amos, farmer, 30, Sarah 25, Mary 9, Albert
3 Wilford 2 and Freeman 16 labourer. Freeman is the son of James as seen
below. My gf James Byron LOWE was not born until 1858 and I have no
record to tie him either with Amos as father nor any of the other
siblings. Also my father was Clarence Wilford LOWE b. 1906 and d. 1959.
Same spelling rather than Wilfred leading me to believe he may have been
named after an uncle.
I have been given the following information from a source in Ontario who
reviewed the records of Northumberland County, Ontario. I believe that
the James Lowe indicated was a elder brother to my ggf but have no
information on their parents or other siblings to more firmly establish
this.
James LOWE who was born aboard ship on the Atlantic Ocean according to
one source. There is no record so far of his parents. He married Jemima
BULL born 1801 in Hallowell, Prince Edward Cty, Ontario. D/o Amos Bull
b. 4 Dec 1768 in Beekham, Duchess Cty, NY and Martha Cunningham b. 1775
in Beekham.
James and Jemima's children are listed as
1. Esther b. 1824 in Prince Edward Cty, Ont, Canada
2. William b.17 Oct 1832 (same)
3. George Edward b. 1834 (same)
4. Freeman b. 1835 (same)
5. Charles C. b. 19 Sept 1837 (same)
6. Lydia E. b. 19 Jan 1839 (same)
7. Mary J. b. abt 1844
Of these I have been able to determine that:
Charles C. married Rachel LAWSON d/o James and Jane LAWSON in Dec 1859
Freeman was living in Brighton on 11 Jan 1865 when he married Lorinda
BROCK, 28 yrs old, of Brighton.
d/o John and Sarah BROCK.
Mary J., living in Percy on 24 Oct 1860 when she married Benjamin
RORABACK (possibly RORABECK), 21 yrs old, of Percy, s/o Thomas and
Cornelia RORABACK (RORABECK)
Per the census of 1851 for Brighton, Northumberland Cty LOWE, Charles
(age 15) and Lydia (age 13) were living with MORROW, Thomas and Esther
and their children Euphemia and Henrietta.
>From the above information it is becoming fairly evident that my ggf
Amos LOWE was likely not Amos Bull LOWE but rather a brother to James
who married Jemima BULL. It is unlikely that he would be a son to James
and Jemima and was not listed in the census with them.
I would very much like to hear from anyone who can either provide me
with more information with respect to the parents of my gf James Byron
LOWE and/or the possibe relationship of Amos Bull LOWE and James LOWE
and their parent's names, et cetera.
