(Outten)Early - American spelling! Admiral Oughton b:Cullen, Banffshire,
Scotland. d:1832. The Admiral changed his name from Hawtie or Haughty.
His father was John Hawtie/Haughty, and was a shoemaker in Farskine.
Probably the same as Houghton or Aughton. Only two surnames ever
recorded in Scotland to this day beg. with "Out" Oughton, Outerson. One
Outwaite in England.
