I received my first copy of "More From The Shore" today and found it well
worth reading, it is evident that a lot of time and work have gone into
it's preperation. It helps to make me aware that I am fortunate to live so
close to the stomping grounds of my ancestors.
Something else that I received in the mail recently was volumes I & II of
"Custis Chronicles" from Picton Press in Maine. They claim that it is the
first biography ever written of the Custis family, so far it is very
interesting reading. Unfortunately, "Custis Chronicles" does not venture
too far into the nineteenth century which is the time period that I am
interested in.
My father in law was John Harvey CUSTIS (1907-1971), His parents were
LUTHER JACKSON CUSTIS (1867- ) m.1890 NANCY LEE HINMAN (1873- )
Harvey's grandparents were LUTHER W. CUSTIS (1833-1887) M.1857 ADAH
GRINNALDS (1837-1873) on his paternal side and WILLIAM S. HINMAN
(1851-1926) M. MARY E. ____ (1854-1916) on his maternal side.
There is another book that I was made aware of entitled "The Custis Family
Tree" by Harry Earl Custis which I tried to obtain through inter library
loan but the only two copies that they could find were in Marysville, CA
and were not available for loan. I understand that the LDS has it on
microfilm and that I should be able to order it in a week or so.
Any help from other CUSTIS or HINMAN researchers would be greatly
appreciated, Thanks.
