Mark: I think you are talking about Worcester Co. MD and Somerset Co.
MD loosing
land to Sussex Co DE at the end of 1768. Prior to 1769 one should look
for
land records on lands south of Indian River and Nanticoke River in
Maryland. The
only exception is that both states should be consulted for Northwest
Fork
Hundred. After 1769 the line was drawn where it is today. See "Land
Records
of Sussex County Delaware 1782-1789" by Elaine Hastings Mason & F.
Edward Wright
pub by Family Line. In the Intro there is a brief but helpful
description. If
you want to check before and after type situations see Ruth Dryden's
"Land
Records of Worcester County, Maryland 1666-1810" and compare with
Wright's
"Land Records of Sussex County Delaware 1769-1782." There is a
comparable
volume for Wicomico, I think by Ruth Dryden. This is about the only way
I have
ever been able to straighten some of these people out. Fortunately, the
land
settlements on death often spell out the heirs.
