Just to let everyone know ----There was a prison in the town of New Castle
(historical part). In fact, there have been around 2 different prisons on the
same site in the town. The last one was torn down in 1911-1912 , because
there were better facilities elsewhere in New Castle County.
The name of "New Castle" does have something to do with England. There is a
town in England with the same name. William Penn was given the three counties
of Delaware by James, the Duke of York in 1682. In receiving the three
counties, it became a part of the colony of Pennsylvania, until the three
counties separated in June 15, 1776. It had nothing to do with New Jersey.
The English actually got possession of the town in 1664 from the Dutch, who
had called the town New Amstel.
