For those of you who are interested in detailed maps of your area of
interest, do not overlook the General Highway County maps that every state
highway department has. These maps come in various sizes and prices. They
are used by the Highway Department, contractors, developers, etc. who need
to know the lay of the land for any reason. The maps usually have
landmarks like churches, cemetaries, creeks, water towers and most of the
little back roads the commercial maps don't show. Of course, these are
modern maps, but some things don't change too much, like river courses,
hills and mountain passes. Sometimes a feature name will give you clues to
the location of otherwise difficult to find places. Having found Roaring
Point on the Wicomico County map and I now feel sure it is the location of
one of our immigrant ancestor's plantations back in 1673

Several years ago I purchased 1:1 maps of all the Delmarva Counties. Each
county map is about 3 to 4 feet square! I think they were about $10-$15
each. I simply called the State Highway Departments and kept asking until
I found the right person who took my order for the maps.

I hope this tip will help someone as much as it helped me!! Happy
hunting!!
