A Shot tower is a tower in which molten lead (or other similiar material) is
dropped and by the nature of a liquid, forms into a ball (or shot) and cools
enough by the time it arrives to the bottom to be a solid in a perfect, or
almost perfect ball. I would assume that the size of the droplet is
controlled to give it a uniform size and/or it is sorted and graded later.
In Philadelphia there exists an old shot tower in the Southwark section of
the city. I do not know how the hot lead was brought to the top. It must have
been a dangerous procedure.
