I can't guarantee it's your ancestor but there is a book called "The
Personal Narrative of James O Pattie of Kentucky" by James Ohio Pattie; it
was originally published in 1833 and was reprinted in facsimile form in
1966.

Anyone whose ancestors went West circa 1815-1825 might find that book, and
also Timothy Flint "Recollections of the Last 10 Years", interesting.

Finally, in a nautical vein from the same time period try the recently
published "Before the Wind" by Tyng. This is extracted from a life story
which only in the past few years was edited for publication. This is an
excellent narrative.
