This is from a discussion on draft records. Thought it interesting about the
county registration. It's another avenue for info. Enjoy! Happy New Year.

Brenda,
Was this card from Metcalfe County, KY?
This was from World War I - There were three general drafts for the War.
The records of these
drafts are located in the National Archives. The original draft
registrations are located in
the East Point Georgia Regional Archives. Copies are available for $5.00.
See the NARA
web site <http://www.nara.gov> for more inforamation.
The original records of World War I soldiers are located in the Kentucky
State Archives in
Frankfort. They are filed by Military branch then alphabetically by
Surname. I regularly look these
up for clients in my research.
The draft registrations are filed by County, then alphabetically. They are
also available from
the LDS Family History Centers.
There were several reasons for draft deferrment during World War I. Some
include Agricultural,
Age, Medical, Industrial, Family Situation and previous military service.
If a family member served in the military, you should also check to see if
they came back home and
registered in the County Clerks office or equivalent. It was a law, but not
enforced. However, I find
a large number of soldiers did register. These are usually called Soldiers
Discharge Books. Many
original books exist in county offices - but are seldom used --- look for
yours... - Mark
