Craig O'Donnell,
Some questions, please.
1. In your recent email, referring to the Md. Archives you state
" ...internal (it's **awful**) catalogue in use there ...".
Are you referring to computer indexes as the "internal" catalogue ?
There is a large (more than 200) set of wooden drawers containing
3" x 5" cards, each card indicating a record. Several drawers constitute
an Index. Do you think of these as an 'external' catalogue ? And, wrt to content,
is there a lot more info given in the computer catalogue, than in the
3" x 5" card catalogue ? (Of course, we use the yellow pages search engine.)
Can you give me an example of an Archives for some state, which has
the modern, up-to-date Index catalogue and film readers that you have in mind ?
It certainly can't be Delaware.
2. In a probate record my ancestor states that he arrived in Maryland
in 1654. I can't find any ships arriving in Maryland during the
time period 1650 - 1670. I find, also, no evidence of his presence
anywhere else in America. Do you have any special knowledge
regarding ships from England to Maryland, passenger lists, and
ports of arrival for this time period ?
Thank you much,
Keith
