Subject: [LDR] Birds/Bounds in Buncombe Co NC 1790s
Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 10:07:26 EST
This is a delayed thanks to all of you who replied regarding Bounds to my
query last week. The Bounds name appears with Bird/Byrds in various records
stradling the VA/NC border west from about the point where Pittsylvania Co VA
is now, and on into many of the counties in Eastern TN (Washington, Greene,
Hawkins, Sullivan in particular), then on over to middle TN.
A group of us Birds/Byrds who only know for sure direct connections with our
ancestors who were in Robertson/Davidson/Sumner Co TN in the late 1700s (1777
and on) have a huge collection of likely suspects in the above places, but
can't seem to organize them into families, with the exception of one group of
Birds descended from a Benjamin Bird and Elizabeth Allison md. abt 1740 in
Prince George Co (probably later Frederick then Montgomery Co) MD.
Anyway, for you Bounds folks, there are some online court records from
Buncombe Cos for few years. They are significant because they link the PG Co
Md Benjamin Birds (who went straight to Orange Co NC) with some other of the
VA lines. Here are links and some snippets:
Here are the links to the online records and a few excerpts from each (as if
we need MORE data):
