John and all,
These are new lines to me and I have posted them here before (Powell,
McKnight, Alexander, Wallace..and I have also concluded that my Lodowick
Fleming Sr. was also probably part of this gang, given his son's mention of
Lodowick Wallace as kin).
My question is (and I'm trying to picture this in my mind). ....When these
families arrived right there in Somerset Co were they in complete Scottish
regalia....ie, kilts, sporrans, dirks, pipes, etc. ?? Were they the
founders of the Buckingham Church??
Also, in doing some research on the Wallace lines, it seems that several of
the Cecil boys moved north to Pennsylvania, and a number of folks are trying
to sort them out.
My best regards.....excerpts on my lines from my June post here follow.
Janet Hunter1. Mary PATTEY, b. about 1693, maybe Somerset Co MD, or Sussex,
DE m. George
TRUITT, b. ca 1692 Somerset Co MD. In their son Pattey Truitt's Worcestor Co
will 1782 he names "Uncle Powell Pattey" as guardian for his children (most
underage), and in the settlement of the estate Powell Pattey and his probable
son (maybe brother) Kendall Pattey are named next of kin.
2. Mary POWELL was born ca.1680, probably in Somerset Co MD., married John
PATTEY (probably grandson of Richard Patey, d. 1693 Sussex Co DE). Mary
Powell's brother Thomas Powell Jr., in his will probated May 7, 1722 made
bequests to Powell Pattey, eldest son of John Pattey, and made John Pattey
his brother-in-law, his executor.
3. Thomas POWELL was born ca 1650 in Northamption Co., VA, and died 1718, in
Somerset Co MD. and Mary MCKNIGHT, daughter of John MCKNIGHT/MCKNITT and Jane
ALEXANDER. Sources: Ruth Dryden's Powell Family book, Dale Family Book,
Genealogy of the Dale family by Melanie Ayres Merryweather.
4. Samuel POWELL born 1615 in London, England, d. September 29, 1666 in
Northampton Co VA. and Ann. Source: Ruth Dryden's Powell Family book,
Northampton Co records.
5. John POWELL and Jane DOCQURA. Source: An Internet tree here: Ruth
Dryden did not include these parents (as far as I can figure out. I copied
the information several months ago, but only pages 1 and 2).
Thanks in advance for any comments.
Janet (Baugh) Hunter

Subject: [WALLACE-L] New to List -- McKnight Alexander Wallace MD 1700s
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hello Fellow Researchers:
I am new to these names as I finally focussed on my Powell/Patteys in
Somerset/Worcestor Co MD, when I realized I actually had gathered quite a bit
of information and that has brought me firmly into the tangled web it seems
of the families of Alexander/Wallace(Walles,Wallis, etc)/McKnight(McKnitt,
etc.).
I am cross-posting on Alexander, Wallace and Brevard lists, as I am not sure
exactly where the researchers of these lines congregate. I also have a
separate "kinsman" Lodowick Wallace and a Thomas Wallace involved in an
ancestor, Lodowick Fleming's will 1728 in Somerset (see the end). I also
have a sneaking suspicion my Joseph MARTIN who d. 1824 in Washington Co TN
had ties with the Alexanders there.
With respect to the Wallace/Alexander/McKnight families...
My line here goes like this:
1. My 5g grandparents -- Pattey TRUITT md Rachel JENKINS ca. 1765 in
Worcestor Co MD. In Pattey Truitt's 1782 will, and subsequent estate papers,
"uncle Powell Pattey" is named guardian; Powell Pattey and Kendall Pattey are
named next of kin.
2. Pattey Truitt was the son of George Timmons TRUITT and MARY PATTEY.
3. Mary Pattey was the daughter of John Pattey and MARY POWELL, per Dryden's
Worcestor Co land record trails, John Patey is said to be the son of John
Patey, son of Richard Patey, d. 1693 in Sussex Co, DE.
4. Mary Powell was the daughter of Thomas Powell, Sr. and Mary MCKNIGHT.
Sources of information: Thomas Jr. Powell's will 1722, Somerset Co MD, left
bequests to Powell Pattey, eldest son of John Pattey, mother Mary Powell,
John Pattey, brother-in-law, executor. Also Ruth Dryden's book on the Powell
family, and the Genealogy of the Dale family by Melanie Ayres Merryweather.
Thomas Powell Sr. was the son of Samuel Powell and Ann.
5. Mary MCKNIGHT, was the daughter of John McKnight II and Jane ALEXANDER.
....NOTE, after Thomas died in 1722, she married (I am told) Jean BREVARD,
the immigrant from France, who also married another McKnight sister, He was
the father of Adam, who then married a McKnight first cousin (I am told
again, and found in a Brevard book).
6. John McKNIGHT II was the son of John McKNIGHT I and Elizabeth WALLACE.
