Dear Janet:
You might be correct in your story concerning Jefferson's checking
books out --but I believe the story is that after the burning of Washington
DC, Jefferson donated his own personal library to replace that which was
lost in the fire and thus the core of our national library is Jefferson's
own.
Good to hear from you and hope all is well on the other side of the
bay.
