Laura Leigh:
My grandparents, John L. Payne and Virginia Johnson, farmed in the area
between Princess Anne and Cokesbury. I know it was close enough to Pincess
Anne that my father went to school there in the early-mid 1920's. In the
family bible, my grandmother noted (later) that in addition to the five
children, two more children died or were stillborn (no dates) and were
buried "at the Methodist church on Eastern Shore." (Don't you just love
precise definitions!!) I am guessing it was before 1910 because of the
order in which she wrote it. I had always assumed it closer to Princess
Anne, but I have not been able to find the graves. It occurs to me that the
Cokesbury Church may be the one she was referring to. If you visit there, I
would appreciate knowing if you saw any stones with Payne on them.
