If you're writing to the governor of MD re the Archives hours, good luck! It
took 8 months, 2 written requests, $50, and 4 long distance phone calls for
me to get copy of a marriage license from the archives. The problem is the
staff. They all need to be fired. They just don't care.
Maryland has some of the most exceptional technology (on-line site, and
scanned images) but the Archives is not doing well because they aren't
customer-friendly (even when you go in person!) Look at the money and budget
of the Library of Virginia, or the Georgia Department of Archives and
History, or the Kentucky Archives.
Maryland needs a chief archivist who is less gadget-friendly and more
customer friendly.
