Greetings! I have seen some of the discussion on early ports. I am also interested in this circa 1680. When was St. Marys established and were there other lower Chesapeake =
ports south of Oxford? One of my little projects is this John Cannon, which seems to be the earliest recorded in the Sussex area. His will mentioned Ickford as a plot of land to will to an heir. There is only one in the world, Ickford, and that is near Oxford in Buckinghamshire. Cannons have already been confirmed to live nearby in Long Crendon (even today). So if I was traveling from England circa 1680, where would I have landed
first before going to the Sussex County area to settle? Good history question. Suggestions or experts we could inquire of?
