I use "A TO ZAX - A comprehensive Dictionary for Genealogists & Historians"
by Barbara Jean Evans to decipher some of the old phrases. It has the
following definition for residuary legatee:

A person who receives an inheritance of an estate's residue or remainder.
The phrase often used in a will is: "the remainder I give to ..."
