Subject: [LDR] Somerset County Land Records--New Volume

Hello Fellow Rooters:
I realize we have been amiss in the production of Somerset County abstracts here lately. I admit, I have found myself
abstracting the "furrin" territories across the bridge on the western shore. Figuring since as the bumper sticker reads around here that "there is no life west of the Chesapeake" that there surely would be a surfeit of wills to abstract over there, I let the home-folks down for a while--but I am doing my best to atone for my omissions and my first offering are a volume of
Land Records for Somerset County covering the period December 1735-through July 1737 as per Deed Book E.I. and including folios 1-195. As the dates predate both the formation of Worcester County as well as the settlement of the border between Maryland and Delaware there are deeds which include both---many along the seaboard side. Additionally, these are excellent land records as they tend to give the tract history including many instances of devises from wills as well as land which fell to the heir at law when the possessed died intestate. And there are also many cases mentioned where children devised land died before taking possession. These are so much better than later deeds where tract history is reduced to the phrase "through sundry devises and conveyances . . ." Like our other land record volumes this one sells for $18.00 and among the surnames to be found in this volume are the following:
Adams, Adkins, Alexaner Anderson, Atkinson, Bacon, Bailey, Ball, Bayly, Beavans/Beavins,
Belling, Bishop, Blades, Booth, Bowen/Bowin, Boyer, Bozman, Brabard (Bravard?), Bradford, Brasar/Braser/Brazier,
