In response to Neil: While I have seen many cases where son in law
means step son here is the proof that in this case at least son-in-law
really means son-in-law:
Will of James Price - 1688 - in which he makes no mention of any Wards
at all: "Item I doe ordr: and ordaine that A parcell of Land yt goes
by the Name of Prices Vineyard and Another parcell of land Called the
Agreement Shall be equally devided between my Loving Daughters
MargarettPrice and Ann Price Item I doe ordr yt as for Plantation and
houseing they Shall have equall Share while they are better provided:
Item I leave a Marsh Called Murkle Meddow Containing three hundred acres
for my Loving Daughters Margaret & Ann and they to have Equall Shares
of the Same for range. Item I doe ordr: and ordaine that if incase that
Margarett and Ann Shoulld die without issue yt all the abovesd. land
and Marsh to returne to my Cossin James Price .....
1. Jan 25 1726 the court divided the land James Price left to his two
daughters upon the petition of Cornelius Ward and Thomas Ward. Don't
have location of exact source with me.
2. from Dryden: Nov 18 1736, Cornelius Ward son of Cornelius and Alice
Ward his wife sold to Jacob Ward, son of Thomas Ward their 1/2 interest
in two tracts Prices Vineyard and Agreement that James Price willed to
daughters Margaret and Ann Price Dryden states: Margaret Price married
Thomas Ward and Ann Price married Cornelius Ward.
3. IKL in They Lived in Somerset states: Ward, Anne: 1694/10/21 IKL
b to Cornelius & Anne; Back Creek
4. Makee Meadow: Dryden: 300 acres surveyed and assigned to James Price
6/1/1683Possessors: Mary Price 300 ac (widow and relic of James Price)
8/26/1708 Outerbridge Horsey from Cornelius Ward.
I apprecite your response. Liz
