The Methodist Church and Cokesbury had a beginning on the Eastern Shore in
East New Market, MD. There is a historical marker at the town center
(intersection) with the story.

As far as I know, the church is called Cokesbury Methodist Church. I just
checked both the yellow and white pages of the Verizon "Superpages May
2003-2004" which covers Somerset and Worcester Counties and there is no
telephone listing.
I doubt there are church records for that church prior to 1856. From
1888-1897 Cokesbury's records were kept with Holland's, Curtis Chapel and
Williams' church records. While I have not seen the earlier records (nor do
I know if they exist), I would imagine Cokesbury's earlier records were kept
the same way. Of those four churches, Cokesbury is the only one still
standing and now that I can't find it in the telephone book, I wonder if it
is still open.
If no one else on the list has an answer about contacting the pastor, I'll
make some inquiries. Not too many years ago, I knew several persons who
attended but they are all now deceased.

Hi Everyone!
Almost a year ago y'all helped me find a tiny church in Somerset County
not far from Dividing Creek and Pocomoke City. In the church cemetery there
I
found the first wife of my gggrandfather, Eleanor C Moore. While visiting I
took notes and left a letter in the door for the pastor to contact me but I
never received a response. There is evidence of another headstone next to
hers but
I have no idea who it could be. Does anyone out there know how to contact
the
pastor of the Cokesbury Church in Somerset County....or know anyone who may
know?! I'd love to find out if the church kept records from the 1850's.
Thanks !!
