Being an aunt to 10 neices and nephews and having two kids and two stepkids,
all in varying levels of school, it shocks me to hear/see the amount of
misinformation that is passed out by our schools.
One of my nephews, at the time in Middle School, came to me one day to tell
me what his teacher told him about why the United States entered into the
fray during WWII.
Now, my father is a vet of WWII so this one really got to our family.
His teacher told him, along with the rest of the class, that Japan bombed
Pearl Harbor to keep us out of the war. I thought this was ridiculous and
gave my nephew an analogy to show him that, IMO, the teacher was wrong.
When I told my dad about what the teacher had told my nephew, he about blew
a gasket!
I'm involved in a struggle now with a teacher of my 9 year old over her
faulty teaching for his Language Arts class... I graduated from college
with a degree in English at a time when grammer was necessary to get the
degree and when I showed her all of her grammatical errors in the
instructions for three of her tests (all of which my son failed, as a result
of her grammatical errors and typos) she turned it around to be his fault
that he should have KNOWN what she wanted. My husband said I just sat there
and stared at her like she had two heads... But this is the same teacher
who told me that... "All of the other kids have already did their
assignment."
And the powers that be wonder why Johnny can't read...
