It is exciting to finally hear all this talk about the Wroten's. That is
why I joined this board. I only just learned last summer that I was related
to the Wroten's, Wroton's, Raughton's, etc. I was tracing the name back
from where my Mom grew up in Ashe County, NC. She is a Roten. I went to
the archives in Wilmington and discovered the deed of the Wroten's acreage
in the Broadkill Hundred in Sussex County back in the sixteen and seventeen
hundreds. I called my Mom and told her that I traced the family back to
where we live today, in Delaware. I was very surprised that I have grown
all around where they lived so many years ago. My Mom and Dad moved up here
from NC/TN in the fifty's when Dad got out of the Korean War. He heard
there was work up here so this is where they came and still live here today.
They are Glynn and Dorothy Payne.
There is a Wroten's Hardware in Newport and I am sure that they are
descendants. I enjoy tracing the family history and intend on doing more
research after the tax season. I am swamped right now with tax preparation.
