My personal favorite from Somerset: "start at a buried cannon ball in the
marsh 100 yds NW of the County Road from Dames Quarter to Chance ..."
and then it goes on to tell us where to find this entombed treasure ...
"... bearing S78/15W from the steeple of the M.E. Church in Dames Quarter
(white), S81E from the chimney of the home of Wilmer J. Price, N78E from the
steeple of the M.E. Church in Rock Creek or Chance (white)".
I have sometimes wondered about this cannon ball, its original purpose, any
victims it had before honorable retirement, its internment, its coming back
into a mysterious productive life beneath the marsh, and actually seeking it out
... but this just leads me into a Zen reverie.
Anyway, anyone here can now go looking for it. Let me know how it turns out.
Remember to take your mosquito spray.
