Subject: [LDR] Messick's Choice
I'm looking for Messick's Choice in Worcester County. The [deed/survey/whatever it's called] reads as follows:
Beginning at a (marked) white oak standing on a hill near a gully on the north side of a county road and on the head of a glade called Arthur's Glade thence running north east one hundred poles thence east and by south two hundred two poles thence south west one hundred poles thence with a right line drawn to the first bounder containing and now laid out for one hundred acres of land more or less...
The description brings up two questions --
1 -- did a county road back then (this is 1749) mean the county maintained it?
2 -- what is a pole?
Can someone help me? Thanks.
Sally
