LOL - talk about river "incidents" ... my great grand uncle John Hitch was
supposedly at the Wicomico theatre one night in the early part of the 20th
century with a lady who was NOT his wife. When the latter came to the
theatre to get him, he ran out the back door, jumped into the branch of the
Wicomico just behind the theatre and swam to safety on the other side -
RELATIVE and TEMPORARY safety, that is, as he got into big trouble upon
arriving home in Fruitland. This is a blacksheep story often told in my
family! The more we dig, the more we find out - good, bad and ugly!
Best Regards,
Mike Hitch

Hey Folks--
Les seems to think that the "English's" near E.S. Adkins was really
"Ayre's Diner" The original was as said--down on South Salisbury Blvd,
another was "uptown" and the 3rd came along later and was located up by
DP&L.
Les--being a life-long resident and a Parker at that--remembers the sound of
the ceiling fans at Montgomery Wards downtown--because they never
airconditioned the store. As well her grandmother worked there and is a
legend for chasing a shoplifter out of the store and over to the river where
the culprit leaped into the river and drowned--crime never pays, ladies and
gentlemen.
Hope this finds all well
