Allen asked, >>Is there any likelyhood that someone would be put in service at age 45?<<
There is no reason why a person of legal age couldn't undertake such an agreement to pay off a debt, such as passage to America or to a place within America from elsewhere in the colonies.
'Indentured servitude' has a more emotional impact on us than the bare legal fact that an indenture was simply an agreement -- including one to buy/sell land or personalty. A discharge from an indenture *could* mean that the conditions of the contract were fulfilled, and that it was an agreement other than servitude. If the discharge does not specify service or servitude, the agreement may have concerned sale of land or of chattels, and you may find more in recorded deeds.
