It is possible that her name was actually Louisa, pronounced "Louisy" and
misspelled by the illiterate census takers. Just as one sees "Unicy" for
Eunice.

Thanks to everyone who wrote such interesting comments in response to my
recent posting.
I don’t know much about my g-g Aunt Levicey/Luvicey except she married
twice and bore 5 sons and 8 daughters. Not a surprise to me, one of her
daughters was named Louisa but the rest of the children had usual names like
Elizabeth, Katie, etc. I can only hope that Auntie took pride in her unusual
moniker and that some of the creativeness her parents possessed in giving her
this name has managed to seep down into my genes and those of my children.

and do not find it anywhere else. It has various spellings: Levicey, Levicy,
Luvicey. Is anyone familiar with this name and could enlighten me as to
it's origins? Perhaps it's a family name used as a given name in this case. At
least, it's a break from "Mary", "Ruth", or "Sarah"!
