You are most welcome, Becky! Glad to be able to pay it forward again. Keep
a lookout on this site for any other Traders who may make corrections to
what I've said.

Thank you, thank you, Joni! You have straightened out my confusion. I
hadn't really been following your thread closely because I have nothing on
the Gordys you need, but when you mentioned Amelia, Henry and Joshua Trader,
it caught my attention. In some ways it is wonderful that our ancestors had
naming patterns repeated generation after generation, but without dates, it
does get confusing.

Becky,

It appears we are from same Tree, but we were talking about two different
Amelia's! I will first tell you about my Amelia Trader and then, hopefully,
we can get into the other Amelia that you were talking about. PLEASE, ALL
OF YOU TRADER/SMITH RESEARCHERS, CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG ABOUT ISIAH TRADER
OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU MAY SEE!

My Amelia's father was Henry Trader V, brother to "your" Amelia. My Henry
Trader V. was married to Sarah/Sally Wilkins.

I only have two children to this couple:

Amelia Trader, born 2/9/1807 and died 1869 and Elizabeth Smith Trader, born
4/25/1805. I have no other info on whether there were other siblings.

My Amelia Trader (b 1807) married John Smith (b. 1813) in Nanticoke Hundred.
John Smith was the son of Marvel Smith, who was the son of Charlton Smith
and Ann Marvel.

Amelia and John Smith had 11 children. From 1859 to 1861 John Smith and his
son, Levin Smith, were the first lighthouse keepers on Fenwick Island.

Sarah J. Smith, (1832) was my 2nd great grandmother; had two children,
Josephine and William E., Have not proved father John Smith, (1833) - I
believe married an Elizabeth Ellen Unknown Rufus Trader Smith (1834)-
married Charlotte Ellen Brittingham Levin W. Smith (1838)- married Amanda D.
Wharton Mary E. Smith (1839)- married William James Robins Bunting James
Andrew Smith (1843)- married Susan Mary Carothers David R. Smith (1844)-
married (1) Jane E. Morris and (2) Sarah C. Littleton Amelia Smith (1845)-
died young Purnel Smith (1846)- died young William T. Smith (1846)- married
Ada Wooster Hester Smith (1849)- died young

Now, to your questions:

Elizabeth Smith who married Henry Trader. She had a brother named Isiah
Smith (born bet 1731-1738). Their parents were David Smith and Elizabeth
King.

I have that this Isiah married Janet/Jennet Oliphant about 1770. I have
that it was then their son, Isiah (b 1773) who married Nancy Truitt.

The Sara Jane Trader in my Tree was the daughter of Henry Trader IV and
Elizabeth Smith. Her siblings included your Amelia, my Henry V, and Joshua
Smith Henry Trader (b 1778) who married Elizabeth Byrd. It was their
daughter, Sara Jane Trader, who married Benjamin Burton Gordy!

I hope I haven't confused you or others. They, like so many families during
those years, named their kids the same. I have tried to be very careful in
this. I have done lots of research myself plus I hired one genealogist from
the area and another in Washington, D.C. who sent me the records of the
lighthouse keepers information.

I have names further up and down the Tree that I am quite willing to share
with you or anyone else that may want to check with me. I have been helped
by tons of people who have freely given me their Trees and their
friendships. As we are all connected to the same two people anyway, just
e-mail me. I'm in Calgary, Alberta, and we are still having snow!

can connect this John H. with the Benjamin Burton Gordy family, I can then
connect them to Sarah/Sallie Smith through the Traders. Sarah/Sallie's
mother was Amelia Trader, daughter of Henry Trader, brother of Joshua
Trader.>

Amelia Trader 1773-1851, daughter of Henry, married Purnell Johnson who died
in
1815 and then Jonathan Parsons who died in 1817. Amelia Parsons left a will,
abstracted as follows:
Amelia Parsons made her will 12 June 1850, devising to niece Amelia
Parsons, widow of William Parsons and daughter of sister Sarah and Henry
White the sum of

$1,500.00; negro boy Moses to have his freedom as per the manumission
heretofore

made and to have the sum of $20.00 when he arrives at the age of 21; to
negroes Phillip, Lazarus, Eliza & Stanford, children of Aaron and Caroline
Parsons, the before named Aaron and Caroline having been manumitted at the
testatrix's decease and the sum of $400.00 is to be put to interest for the
benefit of the above named and given $50.00; remainder of estate to be
divided among the following, equally share and share alike: to sister Sarah
White; to nephew John White son of Sarah; to niece Wise Fooks, daughter of
Sarah White and wife of Henry Fooks; to niece Sally Maddux, daughter of
Sarah White; to niece Mary Twilley, daughter of Sarah White; to nephew
William Trader son of brother Joshua

Trader; to niece Charlotte Parker wife of Elisha Parker of John and daughter
of Joshua Trader; to nephew Thomas Trader son of Joshua; to brother Purnell
Trader and his children Thomas, Adeline, Christopher, Freeborn Trader;
Purnell Trader named executor of the will with nephew John White; witnesses
Robert S. Todd, N.
A. Symington, Levin T.H. Irving; then came Purnell Trader, and relinquished
his right to act as administrator to the will. (18 July 1851 JP5:190).

Perhaps we are not talking about the same Amelia Trader who has a brother
Joshua, both of whom are children of Henry 1741-1791, as I do not have
comprehensive data on the Traders. I happened to have this because I'm
interested in the niece Wise Fooks. But if we are talking about the same
Traders, did Amelia marry prior to Purnell Johnson? Or have I made an
error?
Amelia's mother, Elizabeth Trader, named daughter Amilla Johnson in her 1796
will (probated 1798).

Elizabeth Trader was a Smith at the time she married Henry Trader, but I
don't know whether that was her maiden name or if she was a widow. In a 1773
deed Henry Trader and Elizabeth his wife sold to Peter Gordy, Jr. a tract
called Pea Patch in Wicomico Forest. Elizabeth signed the deed with her
mark but the name was Elizabeth Smith. In 1769 Isaiah Smith had sold to
Elizabeth Smith 50 acres of Pea Patch.

I think Isaiah Smith married Nancy Truitt and they had the Miranda Smith who
married Worc 1827 Joshua S.H. Trader 1808-1865, who might be the parents of
the Sarah Jane Trader who married Benjamin Burton Gordy. Joshua S.H. Trader
is the son of the Joshua Trader named in the above Amelia Parsons' will.

I want to know what relationship, if any, Isaiah Smith has to Elizabeth
Smith who married Henry Trader.
