Hi all -

You may have noticed that RootsWeb's servers have been less stable
than usual since last Monday.

We finally found out why.

Turns out that we've had mail loops going with a couple of sites
since Monday, and that was really affecting the operations of our
mail hub machine and our two largest servers. It took us five days
to recognize the problem because we're handling so much traffic
these days that a mail loop can kinda hide in the midst of all the
other activity.

The problems are fixed now, and we've already installed some new
protections against mail looping.

HOWEVER!

You may see RootsWeb go down several more times between now and next
Thursday. We're upgrading users.rootsweb.com, upgrading
rootsweb.com (the mail hub), upgrading the uninterruptible power
supply, and doing some other arcane upgrades to the networking
hardware.

Cheers, Brian "death to mailloops" Leverich
