I'll backpedal a bit here. I agree that "unsolicitated" attachments are
probably of no value on lists. Equivalent to spam in many respects.
But not always. I will be soon (finally) setting up a private list for
the members of the Irish Genealogical Society , Int'l. I don't want the
list to be competitive with Roots-L and the Usenet groups. Right now,
we're not quite sure what roll the list may play. But from time
to time, it would be nice to send stuff to our members and friends via
attachments.
But many who can't take attachments also complain that long messages
are prohibited by their systems/providers.
So what is one to do?
