I maintain a website for one mailing list that links to members GEDCOM
files. I convert their GEDCOM to indexed-searchable website for them and
send back to them to upload to their website. On the other mailing list, I
maintain a website that provides the space on the server for their GEDCOM
file, once I have converted it.

We DON'T send GEDCOM files thru the mailing list!!!

We were trucking along doing great, then AOL changed "whatever" and now
every time one of my members from AOL try to send an attached GEDCOM it
comes thru as text in the body of the message.

If yours doesn't do that, I would be interested in what version of AOL's
browser that you are using. This happened a little before Christmas, I
believe.

Now, if I understand correctly, you are supposed to be able to copy that
text and paste it to a word processor, save it as a txt file and rename it
a ged file and it will work. Well, tried that and it didn't work for me.
Perhaps I missed a step.

Sue and everybody:

I have AOL and I also have PAF. I don't understand WHY GEDCOM is being
sent
in txt form. The easiest way for me to send GEDCOM is:

<<<< on this side of your screen (on AOL) is several buttons in the
following
order
send
send later
attach <<<<<<<<use this button and "attach" the GEDCOM file to a short
note!
address book

You really don't even have to put a note, but I do so the person getting it
will know what it is. That's all it is to it. I've done it quite a few
times
and never had any trouble doing it this way.

If you want to send the GEDCOM to a list--NO NO.

I suggest you: Query the list subscribers and describe what you have to
share.
Then let them e-mail DIRECTLY to the person with the GEDCOM to share and
request the GEDCOM. You can reply and just "attach" it from where you have
set it up on "A" drive, zip drive, or a handy "c" drive you can get to. (I
put it into "download")

Am I missing something complicated here?
