Right, but most spammers are looking for as much quantity as possible
in the shortest amount of time. They are not going to first subscribe
and then post to the 1000+ mailing lists on rootsweb when they can
just send to the 50,000 other addresses on their spam list.

This may change as spammers continue to evolve and perhaps be more
targeted.

For me, simply requiring that people be a subscriber before they can
post if sufficient for now.
