Hello,again James.
Thank you, truly, for the understanding how my experience could influence my
thinking. I am astounded at the growth your list has incurred and am happily
looking forward to that happening with mine! I know the "numbers" say that
you must be doing something right!!

My experience is not an isolated event. There are many people, male and
female alike, that are the subjects of someone's invading, pervasive,
obsessive attention.

" it also is a place for subscribers to permanently record their surnames,
areas of interest, connection info, etc."

Yes, but surely THAT is by THEIR own choice, not your choice to include them
on that site - yes?

"Yet it is very much a "family". We have been through a lot, almost all of
it exciting and good. We have several active projects, creating collections
of new information."

Again, I think you and your list are very fortunate, you must work well
together! I applaud that. However this is not about "family" it is about
familiarity. <The list administrator of the hobby-list I was on, gave out my
new email address. Something that this guy had NO right to ask for and
especially not receive without my permission. I changed my email address, and
re-subscribed with an address that was generic. I made it a point to NOT
post, only lurk in the shadows. The list manager was contacted with some
stupid story like: I have lost Dianne's new address, do you have it by
chance? and .. there ya go, email from H. The list admin only knew it was
mine because I had asked for his advice and help re-subscribing. I didn't
mention the person by name that was "bothering" me, but he should have picked
up on that and NOT given my address out without my permission to anyone! >
"If I'm replying to someone, I often have to write two versions, one if they
are a new subscriber and are likely to be unaware of the all the
aspects......"

I am sorry. I understand that it may mean more work. So, does that mean that
you do not send your posts to the list at large? But that you segment it? Do
you send it personally one at a time to the old subscribers and then another
to the new subscribers?? Exactly what do you do- I don't quite understand.

I guess the whole point that I should make is:

This isn't necessarily about YOUR list. It is about the information provided
to the admin. of ANY list. Myself included. What if someone other than a
caring, creative person (such as yourself) applied for list admin.? You are
ASSUMING that all list admins are "good" people, with no hidden agendas or
ulterior motives. I understand your point. I just don't think its out of
line to want to protect myself and potentially my family and friends.

" Knowing the ratio of current subscribers to all past+current subscribers
might be interesting. I fail to see, however, anything "big brother-ish" in
having more information about subscription activity."

Knowing the ratio of current sub to all past subs need not be user specific.
That would be fine in a broad based "non-specific" form. Meaning you don't
have to have the NAMES per se. Telling me that it could be "interesting" is
not enough to convince me that anyone needs each name along with their
"personal stats". Perhaps I am not explaining my veiw in a manner that makes
it easy for others to understand. I don't know how to state it more plainly.
If you have never experienced the invasion, the rape of your dignity, home,
your private moments, the loss of freedom to even sit in the yard and enjoy
the warmth of the sun and the pleasure of a fresh breeze, then you may never
understand. NO ONE should have to give up something so simple as posting to a
list, or participating in a discussion to protect themselves & their privacy.
I am sorry. It isn't fair. There has to be a stopping point somewhere. A
stopping point where no longer would the companies, government, and "others"
plot and track and figure out ratios so they may better direct and analyze
our lives.

I'm sorry that your personal experience has had such an influence. (Truely)

Let me give an example or two....
