With Aol, unless I open the message I cannot tell it is from listowners. The
headers cannot be read unless the email is opened. Only sometimes can you
tell by the subject field. This is what the messages from here show up as on
my incoming mail:

6/5/00 re: Taglines
6/5/00 re: Bounces
6/5/00 re: Prepend on Listowners-L re: Taglines

etc.. now my other lists show as this:

6/5/00 re: [Christmas}Fwd: New Member
6/5/00 [Killebrew] Martha Elizabeth
6/5/00 SunshineNative@ao [Dees] Shadrack, 12 generations

I know the reasons that one is not used here, and that is ok. I just wanted
others to see that ao-hell has no sort-capabilities for this. Neither does
Juno, nor does alta-vista. So, really I have to delete it or miss it, or take
a chance..

How about trying out this program? I sent a notice of it to a couple of my
Lists. Try it and see if it will work on AOL. If so, that should solve some
problems. If it works, let us know.

Just discovered what I consider the ultimate in deleting email from one's
server BEFORE downloading. It's a FREE program (so far) and is admittedly (by
the programmer) not free from bugs. Over the years, I've tried many such
programs, but none have really done the job.

This one allows you to access your server, pull up all your email that is
waiting for download, and do things with the email that you never dreamed of.

First of all, you can download the program at:

http://www.yeti-soft.de

And it's named Quick Delete.

(From the "readme", it looks like a young fellow from Germany. He has a great
future in store!)

Next, the file you download IS the executable file. It's NOT a setup file, or
a compressed file, such as an executable .exe or a .zip.

You just put the downloaded file wherever you want it on your hard drive and
then make an icon for it, or make a .lnk to it.

When you run it, you have to first put in some data:

1) Server: That would be the "POP" address for your server; mine is
pop3.concentric.net; some may be "pop" instead of "pop3"; you should
know what yours is;
2) User: That's the part of your email address before the "@"; in my case
it's "sgtgeorg";
3) Password: You know what your password is for your server.

Once you've entered those 3 items, just click on "Connect". It will almost
instantly show you a list of emails waiting for download. (Those that have
arrived since your last download.)

The interface looks very similar to the download list you receive after
downloading.

You see SIZE, DATE, FROM, and SUBJECT.

(You WON'T see any attachments in this list. Read on to find out how to see if
there ARE any attachments.)

Once you have "connected" and see a list of un-downloaded emails, you have some
options:

1) Click on an email, and then click on "Header" in the menu bar; you'll see
the headers just as if you had actually downloaded the email.
2) Click on an email, and then click on "e-mail" in the menu bar; you'll see
the actual body of the waiting email. (Here, if you scroll down, you
should be able to see if there is an attachment to the email.)

Here, you must be sure you click on "Close", not "Save e-mail" or "Save
attachment". You won't usually want to do anything with the email at this
point.

At this point, you can mark the emails you DON'T want to download! Left-click
on the first one, then, holding down the CTRL key, left-click on all the others
you don't want to download. After they are highlighted, just click on "Delete"
in the Menu Bar.

For those who use email programs that are vulnerable to certain types of
viruses, trojans, or worms, this is a very good way to just delete emails
before you download them.

Before sending this email, I tried Quick Delete 5 times. It worked perfectly
every time. Some may like to use it, and some may not. It's up to the user.

Try it, it's FREE. If you have any questions, let me know.
