I stand corrected in any assertion I made that other POP clients worked any other way. I expected better of them.

Actually, I view this as a feature (maybe because I administer a mail system :-). It is *not* good for mail to build up on the server forever, especially if your mail service has quotas. We list admins all know that many do have quotas because of the bounces we get, and maybe this is one reason why.
