That is correct. And I don't believe they will ever have true filtering in
the foreseeable future.

If your only available email is AOL's email then you cannot use OE or any
other mail program to receive and send your AOL mail. However, if you also
have a POP account you can use OE or any other mail program WITH AOL to
receive and send your mail to that account. Only thing is you have to have
an SMTP server that will allow you to send through it since you can't relay
through AOL's mail server.
