Well, it certainly is clear to me that everyone administers their lists in
different ways. Which is not to say that any are wrong-- just different.
I disagree about the virus warnings. I feel the same way about Joke
Forwards. I don't know about you, but I get enough spam and junk in my
Inbox, as do others. It seems as though everyone with whom I share
genealogical info feels compelled to put me on their "Forward" lists
without
asking me first. My lists should be and ARE a safe haven from this type of
e-mail. If there is indeed a serious virus going around, it is most likely
in the news and people need to stay informed on their own. I believe that
there is a list on Rootsweb just for virus warnings-- I could be wrong
about
this. It seems to me that virus warnings very often are much ado about
nothing, and only serve to clog up Rootsweb's servers. Can you imagine
someone sending a virus warning to the seven Rootsweb lists he is on, with
the instructions to "pass it on to all of the other Rootsweb lists you are
on"?
In any case, I an adamant about no virus warnings or joke forwards (unless
they are genealogy related) sent to my list. Neither are helpful to anyone
in the pursuit of family.
