Hi, Elaine:
----------
Why?
----------
OK, now that I've got the summary of my message out of the way (and it is
NOT a rhetorical question), let me wax more or less eloquent and/or verbose
<grin>.
First, it appears that a significant number of listowners consider it
discourteous for me to post to their lists without a prior request. So,
should I have the opportunity to make such a post, I will indeed make the
request. It is, truly, a very small price to pay to maintain harmony.
Second, to all listowners: you have carte blanche to post any message to
any list that I admin. I only request that the message should be relevant
to the list and conform to the AUP. I also further request that, as a
courtesy to my overloaded IN basket, you *not* get permission in advance. I
promise, however, NOT to put you on the reject list if you forget and ask
<grin>.
Third, I have still not seen any rationale as to why a message that would
be acceptable, if it came from one of my other subscribers, would be
impolite just because it is from a RootsWeb listowner. I have plenty of
trouble with attempted spammers and bouncing subscribe attempts. Why should
I screen messages from anyone who spends a significant amount of their
spare time helping out genealogists on RootsWeb?
I've got the "what" down pat. I want to know WHY. (Reiterating: if you want
to know how I'm going to **act**, please refer to the paragraph beginning
"First".)
