Bob: the assumption when we make a list is *always* that it's intended to be
used. (And lists can't be renamed, btw.)

That last statement I can't believe. does rootsweb have a record of why
a list was established? It seems to me that rootsweb allows almost any
surname list to be established without questioning it. There are
Reinhardt, Reinhard and Reinhart lists. And there is a list for
Reynard which may be a separate name but is also a version or
Reinhardt. These are all variations on the same name and many families
changed the spelling over time. I think that these splintered name
lists hinder the purpose of the lists and that is to exchange
information and make contacts.

If someone wants to make a list for a name in specific area, I say OK.

Patty, I would write the few Geddis subscribers and tell them that the
traffic is on Gaddis and that they should subscribe to that list. And
then tell rootsweb to find a new administrator.

Also why not rename the Gaddis list to Gaddis/Geddis?
