Ah, Juli, but consider what you said,
" I just don't care to deal with the list-wide fallout bound to occur
because
of the "I'm the boss and so superior to you" attitude exhibited by such
listowners. Plus it usually results in lists with little or no
activity.
Thanks, but I'll get my genealogical data elsewhere."
You automatically ASSUME that, when someone posts rules/guidelines
that are more restrictive than those with which you are familiar, it is
a
result of someone feeling like "I'm the boss and so superior to
you." Have
you ever considered that the List Manager does NOT feel that way, but,
instead, has good reasons to promulgate his/her rules/guidelines? I
think
people today are much too quick to take offense, have extremely thin
skins, and take everything that doesn't meet with their approval, as a
personal affront to them.
How can you make such a leap as to assume that List Managers who
post restrictive rules fit the "I'm the boss..." mold? You're reading
a
lot into a person's character and motivation, a person about whom you
know nothing. IMHO, I believe that's called "prejudice" (pre-judging
without any prior information).

SgtGeorge
