Subject: Birth parent: sperm donor vs. adoption

On one of my surname lists, a recent posting describes a search for
information about a biological father. In later postings in this thread, the
biological father is identified by name, profession and city of residence, described
as a sperm donor, and stated to be living.

I am a more than a little uncomfortable with the direction of this thread,
and have already asked the participants (gently and privately) to continue
their exchange off the list.

Although I know that there is an ADOPTION-GEN list, this type of discussion
doesn't seem to be covered there. Furthermore, as far as I know, there is no
legal precedent (e.g., property or inheritance rights) that could affect a
sperm donor or his children.

Does anyone have ideas about how to handle this? Would doing more be
appropriate, e.g., having the thread deleted from the archives?

Thanks for your comments.
