most of them don't make any sense.

They did have state censuses for the following years, 1855, 1865, 1915,
1971, 1975.

John would be age 20, his mother Kate O'Brien or Kate Manley would be age 50
in 1860. Just add 10 years for the 1870.

Thank you sooooo much. :-)

Hi Arlene,

I'm afraid I didn't have any luck finding John or Catharine.
Here is what I found in the Heritage Quest Indexes for 1870:

The 1870 index showed 58 MANELY listings, but only showed 5 John MANLEYs in
the whole state of MA.

The only 30 yr. old, b. Ireland, had a wife Margaret and children James 10,
Kate 4, Mary Ellen 3, and Gilbert 8/12.

There was a 27 yr. old, but he had a wife Joanna, and children Margaret,
John and Daniel.

Other John MANLEYs, were age 16, 56, and 50

The only CathArine (spelled with an A) MANLEY was 16 yrs. old.
There was also a CathErine (spelled with an E) MANLEY 46, with sons Thomas
19, and James 16.

For the O'BRIEN surname, I found:

Suffolk Co., Boston, 2 WD - p. 371
Catherine O'Brien, 60, keeping house, b. Ireland, cannot read or write
Mary, 26, Tailoress, b. Ireland

Suffolk Co., Boston, 10th WD - p. 338
Catherine O'Brien, 60, keeping house, b. Ireland
John, 40, Shoemaker, b. Ireland
Timothy, 26, Laborer, b. Ireland
Dennis, 21, App. to Carpenter, b. Ireland

Suffolk Co., Boston, 14th WD - p. 150
Catherine O'Brien, 60, keeping house, b. Ireland
Ellen, 25, works in shoe shop, b. Ireland
Ellen Carney, 13, in school, b. MA
John Carney, 35, works in shoe shop, b. Ireland

Middlesex Co., Holliston Twp. - p. 198
Catharine O'Brien, 60, keeping house, b. Ireland
Henry, 22, works in boot shop, b. Ireland
John, 21, works in boot shop, b. Ireland

I'll try to get to the 1860 index later today or tomorrow.

Regards,
Lou
