Re the father's name on the birth certificate....
At least 50 years ago, the name of the father was left blank on a birth
certificate. As to baptism in the Catholic Church- not sure but the
Episcopal Church at that time certainly was reluctant to baptize a child out
of wedlock.
Like you, Alice, I was Godmother to a child born in that situation-good thing
that times have changed!
