Hi Again All,
Oh Lisa I knew before your post that Lowell's was burning. My
Grand Daughter works at Subway (for summer) a few blocks /doors up
and called me as she wa s worried whether I was probably there. :)
I was going to lunch that day but we went to another place for a
quick bite. :)

Yes Lorna Rhodes passed away a few weeks ago, she was the Pres.
of the Mendon Historical Society and now I am Pres, pro-tem. I was
1st VP..
Also for a few who have come to the area may be interested that
Frank Dudley also passed away this weekend. He was the past post
master for many many years and a collector of Mendon post cards
and photo's. and a great Mendon Historian. As was Lorna R... Many may
know Lorna as the Librarian at Taft Library for over 50 years. Both
will be sadly missed.

Jes/Jean what wa s your mother's maiden name..My friend Myla Thayer 98
1/2 yrs. also went to school with Putt (Harold) Lowell. They must
know one another?? If u give me your mother's full name I'll ask
Myla, as she also is still remarkably alert .
Harold Lowell was murdered during a robbery at Lowell';s many years
ago. Well he was shot and died of a heart a ttack due to the
robbery and shooting and it was called murder.

I went today to see the damage at Lowell's. It is just a big pile
of burnt boards and rubble. A little was standing yesterday but now
all is gone. The cause now is dete
rmined *accidental) as the fire starte d in the exhaust fan in the
kitchen.
It'll take a while for us area folks to get over this tragedy.

Frank the only Bates Genealogy I know is the one from the Bates
Association that I think was compiled by Mrs Russell Bates. I have
just a few pages of it. I'm not familiar with any other ones
however I am sure there must be some.
Well, I am off.. Nice reading newer and older memories of Lowell's
and Mendon also.

List has been quiet , let's try and get it busy again,
Have a Nice Evening,
Alice
